Lend Lease signs development agreement with LandCorp for Alkimos housing development

THE West Australian government yesterday finalised an agreement between Delfin Lend Lease and LandCorp to begin the first stage and master planning of Alkimos, described as the biggest and most significant coastal development north of Perth in 50 years.

Located 40 kilometres north of Perth's CBD, the Alkimos Eglinton area will provide homes for up to 50,000 people.

Lend Lease was selected by the WA government in January this year as preferred proponent for the $400 million first stage of the 710 hectare Alkimos Community development.

Development of the first stage, comprising 224 hectares of land at Alkimos is expected to start in 2011 and will include approximately 2,500 homes with the first residential land to be released for sale in the same year. The first stage will take up to seven years to complete and up to 20 years to develop the entire 710 hectare community.

Lands Minister Brendon Grylls said the Alkimos development formed part of the State Government's response strategy to the shortage of housing, with Perth's population forecast to reach 3.86 million by 2051.

"Alkimos will be a coastal development with a focus on environmentally sensitive design, recycled water use, integrated public transport systems, education partnership models and local job creation initiatives," Mr Grylls said.

The Alkimos development will include a major regional town centre, coastal village, regional beach, possible marina facilities, public open space and social and community infrastructure.
