Major residential development gets the go-ahead at Buckland Park

ACTING Minister for Urban Development and Planning, Jack Snelling, last week announced that the government has approved the rezoning of land at Buckland Park, in Adelaide's north.

The rezoning of the land, comprising an area of 1,340 hectares, will allow for residential development, including community facilities and employment lands. The land was identified for urban growth in The 30-Year Plan for Greater Adelaide.

"Rezoning will establish this new master planned community that will eventually support about 12,000 new dwellings and an estimated population of about 33,000 people during the next 15-20 years," Mr Snelling said.

"Maintaining a pipeline of land zoned for residential housing helps to reduce pressure on prices and maintain a supply of affordable housing for South Australians."

The land is located approximately 14 kilometres from the Elizabeth City Centre and will be initially linked to Virginia.

Mr Snelling said the government is also working with the City of Playford to develop a structure plan for other new growth areas within the council area to ensure infrastructure is planned and provided on a regional basis.
