Cedar Woods selected as preferred proponent for Glenside redevelopment in Adelaide's south-east

THE South Australian Government last week announced that Cedar Woods Properties Limited has been chosen as the preferred proponent for the 16.5 hectare Glenside site following an Expressions of Interest process.

Under the proposal, Cedar Woods would partner with a range of South Australian companies including highly regarded builders Qattro and urban design and planning firm Hames Sharley.

Renewal SA and Cedar Woods will work together over the next six months to develop a master plan for the site in consultation with the community. The State Government will then determine whether to accept Cedar Woods' final proposal for the site.

Housing and Urban Development Minister John Rau said Cedar Woods was selected as the preferred partner based on their vision for the site and experience in delivering innovative medium to high density developments.

"I have been clear that development on the site must respond to both the site's heritage and environmental features and be done in consultation with the community – and this is exactly what Cedar Woods is proposing," he said.

"Open space, sustainability and the heritage buildings are strong features of Cedar Wood's early proposals, and they will now work with Renewal SA and the community to develop a master plan for site.

"In acknowledging the feedback that has previously been provided by the community, Cedar Woods envisages delivering high quality open space, featuring new cycling and pedestrian paths, sports equipment and courts, a playground and barbecues.

"There is the potential for this redevelopment to support a number of new jobs however figures around this are yet to be finalised.

"This is a great sign of confidence in the future of South Australia and the State Government looks forward to working with them."

Mr Paul Sadleir, Cedar Woods' Managing Director, said Glenside represents an ideal opportunity to invest in South Australia.

"Our ambitions for Adelaide are long term, and we are pleased to have the opportunity to secure a landmark site to enter the South Australian market – Glenside fits that objective," Mr Sadleir said.

"We are looking to open a new office in Adelaide and would appoint a dedicated full-time team to this project, and have formed a strong team of South Australian companies to help deliver it.

"Glenside is an exceptional opportunity for urban renewal and deserving of a world class development – and we will be looking to use our experience and knowledge from projects in Victoria and Western Australia to make this project of the highest quality. It is rare to come across a site so well located in a capital city and in a sought after suburb.

"We understand the importance of retaining the character of the site – including open space and trees – so we will be working with the local community to ensure their views are reflected in the masterplan."

The site is expected to accommodate up to 1000 homes as part of a medium to high density development with a likely mix of apartments and townhouses. All heritage buildings will be retained.

The Adelaide-based companies Cedar Woods plans to work with include Qattro, Hames Sharley, Flightpath architects, Wallbridge & Gilbert engineers, Tierra Environment and MasterPlan.
