FEDERAL Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese yesterday announced the approval of Adelaide Airport's proposal to construct a new multi-level car park, pedestrian plaza and associated road works.
The $85 million development will cater for up to 2,000 cars and a new pedestrian plaza will provide a link for pedestrians with the main terminal complex.
Mr Albanese said the project will support the airport's recently completed terminal and accommodate expected increases in passengers at the airport over the next 20 years.
The proposed road works are expected to improve the traffic flows in and around the airport by upgrading existing roads servicing the terminal and car park.
If Adelaide Airport proceeds with its proposal for an elevated walkway between the car park and the terminal, Mr Albanese said the government would consider it in due course and provide opportunity for public comment.
The project is due to be completed in mid 2012.
