WOOLWORTHS Limited is set to build a retail hub at Playford Alive's major town centre development, with construction expected to commence in March next year and be completed in early 2015.
The development, located on Peachey Road in Munno Para, north of Curtis Road, will include a Woolworths supermarket, Big W discount department store and a range of specialty shops and form a key component of the Playford Alive urban renewal project on the northern fringe of Adelaide.
Making the announcement last week, South Australian Housing and Urban Development Minister Tom Koutsantonis said the commitment of Woolworths to build at Playford Alive highlights business confidence in the new development.
"With planned new commercial businesses, a school, childcare facilities, a church and Town Park, this community will soon have convenient services and a wide range of amenities," Mr Koutsantonis said.
The retail component is expected to take up approximately 16,300 square metres of the 43,000 square metre town centre site, which is designed to be close to new and existing homes, transport, schools and health care.
Covering more than 1,000 hectares, including 500 hectares of new development, Playford Alive aims to deliver physical, social and economic renewal and attract 40,000 residents over the next 10 to 15 years.
The project achieved record residential sales in April, which Mr Koutsantonis said demonstrates the strong demand for quality housing and commercial businesses within the community.
