STAGE TWO of consultation for the extension of Brisbane's Northern Busway began this week, with Queensland Transport Minister, Rachel Nolan, releasing corridor maps for the extension. The extended Northern Busway from Kedron to Bracken Ridge, will service the Prince Charles Hospital and Westfield Chermside and builds on the existing Northern Busway from the Royal Brisbane Women's Hospital to Kedron. The section from Windsor to Kedron is currently under construction. Ms Nolan said the goal of round two was to agree on the busway corridor for preservation. "This project is funded through SEQIPP and I'm keen to discuss the busway corridor with the community, get their feedback, and push on with detailed planning," she said. "The options we release today incorporate a combination of community feedback from round one consultation and the results of our ongoing technical investigations." Ms Nolan said busways would play an important role in the future to accommodate population growth and mitigate congestion. She said the government is determined to double the share of public transport to 14 per cent in the next 20 years. Ms Nolan said the project team would work closely with property owners who had a potential land impact. A community reference group has also been set up to support community consultation by identifying key issues, concerns and ideas through communication between the project team and the community.
