THE Northern Territory Government last week called for expressions of interest to develop the fifth and final stage of the Zuccoli subdivision in Darwin's south, after awarding stages 3 and 4 to a consortium consisting of Ostojic Pty Ltd and Victorian developer, Costa Properties.
Stage 5 of Zuccoli will supply land for a further 400 dwellings in addition to the 2,200 dwellings to be delivered under stages 2, 3 and 4 of the Zuccoli land release. It brings the total number of dwellings that could be generated from land released under the Country Liberals Government to almost 6,000.
Minister for Lands, Planning and the Environment Peter Chandler said the government has made releasing land a priority in order to drive down the cost of living and increase housing affordability.
"Berrimah Farm was released earlier this month which will yield around 3,000 dwellings – and more releases are in the pipeline," Mr Chandler said.
The 168-hectare Berrimah Farm site is expected to accommodate almost 3,000 dwellings, including possible higher density residential development around a town centre, as well as land for community purposes such as research facilities, education facilities and other community uses.
The expressions of interest process for Zuccoli Stage 5 is open until 2 November 2014 and construction is due to commence in the first quarter of next year.
