Land rezoned to support 130 homes on the NSW Far North Coast

HOUSING supply on the NSW Far North Coast has received a boost following the NSW Government's decision to approve the rezoning of 24 hectares of residential land west of Pottsville.

The rezoned land will support the development of around 130 dwellings as part of the second stage of Seabreeze Estate.

Planning Minister Tony Kelly said the decision would help meet the increasing demand for residential land and housing in the area.

"This site has already been identified as a potential urban release area in both the Far North Coast Regional Strategy and Tweed Shire Council's Residential Release Strategy," Mr Kelly said.

"The land has previously been cleared for agriculture and grazing and is a logical extension to the first stage of Seabreeze Estate."

The project will contribute towards the 19,100 new dwellings in the area required by 2031 and improve housing affordability, the Minister said.

Mr Kelly said the plan incorporates a buffer strip of vegetation which provides native habitat and has been zoned environmental protection.

The changes were made through an amendment to the Tweed local environmental plan (LEP), in response to a request from Tweed Shire Council.
