NSW Government Architect to review Coogee Bay Hotel plans

PLANNING Minister Tony Kelly yesterday announced that the Department of Planning will not consider Oakstand Property Group's proposals for redevelopment of the Coogee Bay Hotel site until a review is undertaken by the Government Architect.

Mr Kelly said the announcement follows concerns by the Department of Planning, Randwick City Council and the community over the different options being considered by developer.

He said there were particular concerns about the height, bulk, scale and impact of the proposal on the character of the heritage and locality.

NSW Government Architect, Peter Mould, will now review development options for the Coogee Bay Hotel site. No decision on the development will be made until the Government architect has had an opportunity to consult with the proponent, the council and the Coogee Precinct Committee.

The Government Architect will report on the proposal in order to assist the Department of Planning in its consideration of the major project declaration request.
