Grattan Institute releases 'The Cities We Need' report

THE Grattan Institute, an independent public policy think-tank focused on Australian domestic public policy, has released its first report from its Cities Program, titled 'The Cities We Need'.

The report aims to set an agenda for thinking about the future of Australia's cities and asks how our cities meet the individual needs of their residents, both material and psychological, and identifies emerging challenges to meeting these needs. One conclusion that emerges is that while social interaction is critical for human thriving, it has not been a focus of analysis about cities in the past.

The report emphasises that it does not seek to provide solutions or prescriptions, but rather, the report lays out ten questions about our urban future that it says we must get serious about.

The report, 'The Cities We Need', is available from the Grattan Institute website at <http://www.grattan.edu.au/>.
